Project Story

From Start to Finish

Discovery

What We Found

Before the project, the Fair Lawn deck had years of sun exposure and weather wear built up on the surface. The finish had faded unevenly, several sections were peeling, and the railings looked tired compared with the rest of the home. The homeowners wanted to restore the deck without replacing the entire structure.

The Challenge

What Made It Tricky

The main challenge was dealing with a heavily weathered surface that needed thorough prep before any paint could hold properly. We also had to work around a narrow side walkway and keep the finish consistent across the boards, railings, and stair components.

Our Approach

How We Built It

We power washed the deck, scraped away loose coating, sanded rough areas, and let the wood dry fully before applying primer where needed. After that, we used an exterior-grade deck paint in a walnut-brown tone on the floorboards and fresh white paint on the railings and trim for contrast. Multiple coats and careful brushwork around the stairs helped create an even, durable finish.

The Result

The Finished Deck

The finished deck now has a smooth, more uniform appearance with rich color and clean details. The darker floorboards hide the old fading well, and the white railings make the whole backyard look brighter and more finished. It turned a worn surface into a space that feels ready for regular use.

Client Outcome

How They Use It

The homeowners now enjoy sitting outside and hosting family gatherings without being distracted by peeling paint and dull boards. It made the deck feel like part of the home again.

How We Built It

The Build Process

1

On-Site Estimate

We visited the Fair Lawn home, assessed the peeling paint and faded wood, and discussed color options with the homeowner.

2

Cleaning and Surface Prep

The deck was power washed, scraped, and sanded so the new coating would bond properly.

3

Priming and Painting

We applied primer to worn spots and painted the deck boards, railings, and trim in the chosen finishes.

4

Drying and Final Inspection

After the paint cured, we checked the details, cleaned the area, and reviewed the finished deck with the homeowner.

“The deck was looking rough before, and now it looks sharp again. The crew was on time, kept things tidy, and the color came out exactly how we wanted.”
