Can the new deck be bigger than the old one?
Yes — replacement is new construction, so the footprint is yours to choose within your setbacks. Enlarging during a rebuild is far cheaper than extending later.
Do I need a permit to replace a deck?
Yes. A replacement is a new structure in your township's eyes, with footing and final inspections. We prepare the drawings, file it and book the inspections ourselves.
Wood or composite for the rebuild?
A fresh frame is the cleanest start composite ever gets — spacing and fasteners done to spec from board one. Wood remains the budget-honest choice for large footprints. We price both on your actual layout; see Composite Decks for the comparison.
How long does a full replacement take?
Demolition typically takes one to three days, the rebuild one to three weeks depending on size and height, plus the township's permit lead time. It is scheduled as one continuous job.
What happens to the old deck?
We demolish it with the house and yard protected and dispose of everything properly — lumber, hardware and footings that are coming out. Disposal is in the quote, not a surprise.
Can you reuse my old footings?
Only if they pass: depth below frost, correct size, no movement. Old footings that pass are savings; ones that do not are exactly why the deck is being replaced.
Will my yard survive the demolition?
Yes — protection is part of the job. Paths are boarded, the lawn under the work is shielded, and the site is cleared at the end of each day like any of our builds.
