Project Story
From Start to Finish
What We Found
Before the project, the backyard deck had visible wear from years of use, including warped floorboards, peeling stain, and a railing that wobbled in a few spots. A few areas near the steps felt soft underfoot, and the surface had become uneven enough that the homeowner no longer felt comfortable using it regularly.
What Made It Tricky
The existing deck was tucked in close to the rear siding and had a narrow side run of stairs, so demolition and rebuild work had to be handled carefully to avoid damaging the home’s exterior. The homeowner also wanted a safer layout without changing the overall footprint too much.
How We Built It
We removed the old decking and framing, then rebuilt the deck using pressure-treated structural lumber and installed composite boards for the walking surface. New white vinyl railings and properly set stair stringers were added to bring everything up to current safety standards, while keeping the look clean and simple to match the house.
The Finished Deck
The finished deck now sits level and solid, with a smooth composite surface and crisp white railings that fit the home well. It no longer has the creaks, soft spots, or uneven edges that were there before, and the updated build gives the backyard a more finished look from the kitchen door out.
How They Use It
The homeowner can use the deck again without worrying about loose boards or shaky railings. It’s now a comfortable spot for grilling, sitting outside, and having a few people over on the weekends.
