Project Story

From Start to Finish

Discovery

What We Found

Before the repair, the Oakland deck showed wear in the spots that get the most foot traffic. The boards near the back door had started to feel soft, a few planks along the railing line were slightly cupped, and the stair area had movement that made the homeowner cautious about using it regularly. The deck still had a good footprint, but the damaged sections made it feel unreliable.

The Challenge

What Made It Tricky

The trouble spots were concentrated around the main entry and stair opening, so the repair needed to be precise and blend into the existing structure. We also had to match the older pressure-treated material as closely as possible so the finished work wouldn’t stand out awkwardly.

Our Approach

How We Built It

We removed the failing boards and replaced them with new pressure-treated lumber sized to match the existing deck framing. The loose railing section was reset with fresh fasteners, and we rebuilt the worn stair edges so the step line felt firm and even again. After fastening everything down, we cleaned up the work area and checked the repaired sections for a solid finish.

The Result

The Finished Deck

The deck now feels stable underfoot and looks more uniform from the backyard. The repaired boards sit flat, the railing is tight again, and the stair area no longer has the give that was there before. It turned a tired-looking deck into a space the homeowner can use without second-guessing it.

Client Outcome

How They Use It

The homeowner can use the deck again for grilling, stepping out to the yard, and hosting family without worrying about soft boards or shaky railings. It’s back to being a normal part of the home instead of a spot they had to avoid.

How We Built It

The Build Process

1

On-Site Inspection

We visited the Oakland property, examined the soft boards, loose railing, and stair wear, and mapped out the repair plan.

2

Material Removal

Our crew removed the damaged decking and railing components so the affected areas could be rebuilt properly.

3

Board and Railing Repair

We installed new pressure-treated boards, re-secured the railing, and tightened the stair area for a firmer feel.

4

Final Cleanup and Review

After the repairs were complete, we cleaned the deck and walked the homeowner through the finished work.

“They came out, showed us exactly what needed attention, and fixed it without making a bigger project out of it. The deck feels sturdy again and the whole area looks much better.”
