Project Story

From Start to Finish

Discovery

What We Found

Before the project, the back of the Woodland Park home had a small concrete landing that was cramped and didn’t give the family much room to sit outside. The step down to the yard was awkward, and the area right outside the rear slider felt plain and unfinished. The homeowner wanted a patio deck that would make the space more usable without taking over the backyard.

The Challenge

What Made It Tricky

The yard had a slight slope away from the house, so the deck height and stair placement had to be planned carefully to make the transition comfortable and code-friendly. We also had to keep the footprint compact enough to leave open lawn space while still allowing room for furniture and a grill.

Our Approach

How We Built It

We built a new pressure-treated frame and topped it with composite decking in a weathered teak color for a low-maintenance finish. White vinyl railings with black balusters were installed for a clean contrast, and the stairs were built wide enough to make access to the yard easier. The layout was adjusted to fit the rear entry neatly while still giving the homeowner a practical seating area.

The Result

The Finished Deck

The finished patio deck now gives the home a defined outdoor living space that feels clean and functional from the back door. The warm composite boards and simple railing package complement the house well and make the backyard look more finished. It’s a noticeable upgrade from the old landing and makes the rear of the property much more usable.

Client Outcome

How They Use It

The homeowner now uses the deck for morning coffee, grilling, and relaxing outside with family. It turned a tight back entry into a spot they can enjoy every day.

The Build Process

1

Free In-Home Estimate

We met with the homeowner in Woodland Park, measured the rear entry area, and reviewed the patio deck layout and material options.

2

Design and Planning

The deck height, stair location, and railing layout were finalized to fit the slight slope of the yard and the size of the back landing.

3

Framing and Footings

Our crew installed the support structure and set the frame to the proper height for the rear slider and yard grade.

4

Decking and Railing Installation

We installed the composite boards, added the white vinyl railings with black balusters, and built the wide stairs.

5

Final Cleanup and Walkthrough

After the finishing details were complete, we cleaned the site and reviewed the new patio deck with the homeowner.

“The deck fits the yard perfectly and feels really solid. The crew kept everything organized and finished it up exactly how we talked about.”
