Project Story

From Start to Finish

Discovery

What We Found

Before the project, the rear of the Saddle River home had a small concrete landing that didn’t connect well to the rest of the backyard. The area around the sunroom felt cramped, and the step down to the patio was awkward for carrying chairs, serving food, or moving between outdoor spaces. The homeowners wanted something larger and more comfortable without taking away from the yard.

The Challenge

What Made It Tricky

The deck needed to tie into both the elevated sunroom threshold and the lower stone patio, which meant the height transitions had to be measured carefully. We also had to work around existing landscaping beds and keep the new structure visually light so it fit the property.

Our Approach

How We Built It

We built a pressure-treated frame on properly set footings and finished it with composite boards in a coastal gray tone for a clean, low-maintenance surface. A matching picture-frame border added detail around the perimeter, and we installed white vinyl railings with black balusters to keep the look crisp. The wide stair run was designed to land naturally onto the patio and make traffic flow easier between outdoor areas.

The Result

The Finished Deck

The finished patio deck created a more usable connection between the home and backyard. The gray composite surface gives the space a neat, polished look, and the new stairs make it easier to move between the sunroom, deck, and patio. It turned an underused rear entry into a practical outdoor hangout area.

Client Outcome

How They Use It

The homeowners now use the patio deck for dinners outside, morning coffee, and hosting friends by the pool. It gave them a comfortable place to spend time outdoors without dealing with the hassle of wood maintenance.

How We Built It

The Build Process

1

Free In-Home Estimate

We met with the Saddle River homeowners, reviewed the rear entry and patio layout, and measured the space for the new deck.

2

Design and Layout Planning

Our team mapped out a 15' x 26' patio deck that would connect the sunroom, patio, and yard smoothly.

3

Framing and Footings

We installed the pressure-treated framing system on set footings and prepared the structure for composite decking.

4

Composite Deck Build

The coastal gray composite boards, picture-frame border, white vinyl railings, and wide stair run were installed to finish the deck.

5

Final Cleanup and Walkthrough

We cleaned the job site, checked all finishes, and reviewed the completed patio deck with the homeowners.

“They built a patio deck that fits the property really well. Everything feels solid, and it made the backyard way easier to use.”
