Patio Deck Build for Paterson Home
Patio deck installation in Paterson, NJ by House of Decks LLC with composite decking, railings, and custom outdoor design.
Project Story
From Start to Finish
What We Found
Before the project, the back of the home had a small concrete landing that was too tight for furniture and didn’t feel like a real outdoor living area. The old step-down to the yard was awkward, and the surface area near the back door showed signs of wear from years of foot traffic and weather exposure. The homeowner wanted a proper patio deck that would look better and be easier to use for everyday gatherings.
What Made It Tricky
The rear yard had a slight slope, so the deck height and stair placement had to be set carefully to keep the transition from the house comfortable and code-compliant. We also had to work around a narrow side access path, which made material delivery and cleanup a little tighter than usual.
How We Built It
We framed the patio deck with pressure-treated lumber and installed composite boards in a rich brown tone for a low-maintenance finish. White vinyl railings with black balusters were added for a clean contrast, and we built wide steps for easier access to the yard. The layout was adjusted to maximize seating space while keeping the footprint balanced with the back of the house.
The Finished Deck
The finished patio deck gives the home a more defined outdoor space that feels practical and finished from the rear entry. The warm composite surface and crisp railings tie in nicely with the house and make the backyard look more put together. It now feels like a natural extension of the home instead of just a small landing.
How They Use It
The homeowner now uses the deck for morning coffee, weekend grilling, and sitting outside with family. It’s become the main spot for relaxing without adding a lot of upkeep.
