From Start to Finish
What We Found
Before the project, the Wayne backyard did not get much use. The rear slider opened onto nothing useful, a slight slope ran toward the back corner, and the yard felt exposed and unfinished. The homeowner wanted a cleaner, more private outdoor space that would work for everyday family time.
What Made It Tricky
The property has a slight slope toward the back corner, so the posts had to be set at different heights to keep the deck level. The only access to the backyard is a narrow path beside the house, which meant carrying materials in by hand without disturbing the lawn or the existing landscaping.
How We Built It
We set new posts for the slope, framed a compact raised platform off the rear slider, and surfaced it in gray capped composite with hidden fasteners. White railing runs the open sides with the opening at the far corner for the step down to the yard. Everything was carried in along the side path and the site was left as we found it.
The Finished Deck
The finished deck gives the Wayne backyard a real place to sit, level off the slider and closed in by the existing fence line. The gray boards and white rail match the house, and the small footprint leaves the lawn alone.
How They Use It
The homeowner uses the deck for grilling, sitting outside, and letting the dog out without the yard feeling exposed. It made the whole backyard feel more usable.
