Project Story

From Start to Finish

Discovery

What We Found

Before the project, the backyard had a small concrete pad that was too tight for patio furniture and didn’t connect well to the rear door. The step down from the kitchen was awkward, and the area behind the house looked unfinished from the yard. The homeowner wanted a proper deck that would create more room for everyday use and weekend gatherings.

The Challenge

What Made It Tricky

The back door sat a little higher than the yard grade, so the deck height and stair layout had to be planned carefully. There was also limited clearance near one side of the house, which meant the footprint needed to stay compact while still leaving space for a grill and seating.

Our Approach

How We Built It

We framed the deck with pressure-treated lumber and set it on concrete footings sized for the existing grade. To finish the project cleanly, we added composite-style border detailing, installed white vinyl railings, and built wide stairs for safer access to the lawn. The layout was kept simple and balanced so it would work well with the home’s exterior without overwhelming the yard.

The Result

The Finished Deck

The finished deck added a clean, functional outdoor extension to the home and made the back entrance much easier to use. The contrast between the natural wood deck and the gray border gave the space a neat, tailored look. It now feels like a real part of the house instead of just a small landing.

Client Outcome

How They Use It

The homeowners now use the deck for morning coffee, grilling, and sitting outside with the kids. It became the main hangout spot in the backyard.
