What We Found

What Made It Tricky
The damaged sections were located in high-traffic spots near the back door and stair opening, so the repair work had to be handled carefully to avoid disrupting the rest of the structure. Matching the existing deck boards and keeping the stair run comfortable also required a close fit and precise measurement.
How We Built It
We removed the damaged boards and trim, then replaced them with new pressure-treated lumber sized to match the existing framing. The loose railing was reset and secured with fresh fasteners, and the stair treads were rebuilt for a firmer, more even step. We also sealed the repaired areas to help them hold up better through the next season of weather.
The Finished Deck
The finished repair restored the deck’s stability and gave the backyard a cleaner, better-kept look. The repaired boards blend in with the rest of the structure, and the railings feel tight again at the stair opening.
