From Start to Finish
What We Found
Before the project, the Paramus deck showed its age in the spots closest to the pool. Several boards near the main walkway had started to soften, the railing by the steps had noticeable movement, and the trim along the outer edge was stained and beginning to split from moisture. The homeowners wanted it made safe again without changing the overall layout.
What Made It Tricky
A deck next to a pool gets wet from above and from the side, and the old wood trim along the rear edge showed exactly where that water had been going. The new deck had to keep the same footprint and the same stair to the pool apron while removing every exposed wood surface.
How We Built It
We removed the old deck and rebuilt it on the same footprint with a fresh frame, surfaced in gray capped composite with hidden fasteners. The base is closed in with vertical composite skirting and a white-wrapped rim instead of wood trim, the railing is white posts with black aluminum balusters, and the stair to the pool apron was rebuilt to match. A gravel bed along the outer edge keeps splash and runoff moving away from the frame.
The Finished Deck
The finished deck is a clean gray platform with a white-and-black rail that matches the house trim. The soft spots and the split trim are gone, and there is no exposed wood left on the outside of the deck to soak up the next season.
How They Use It
The family uses the deck for meals by the pool, grilling, and everyday traffic between the house and the water without watching for soft boards. It feels like a dependable part of the yard again.

Inspection and Estimate
We visited the Paramus property, checked the soft boards, loose railing, and split trim, and reviewed gray capped composite and railing options with the homeowners.
Demolition
The crew removed the old deck, trim, and stair while protecting the pool apron and the plantings along the edge.
Framing and Decking
We built the new frame on the original footprint and installed the gray capped composite boards with hidden fasteners.
Skirting, Railing, and Cleanup
Composite skirting, the white-and-black railing, and the gravel bed were finished, then the site was cleaned and reviewed with the homeowners.
