From Start to Finish
What We Found
The Woodland Park deck had faded to a gray-brown with uneven wear across the walking surface, especially near the back door and stair landing. Several boards had raised grain and old stain buildup, and the rail caps showed water spots from repeated exposure. The homeowner wanted the space refreshed before using it more in the warmer months, and this time without a stain schedule.
What Made It Tricky
Part of the deck sits in shade, so that end held moisture longer and had aged faster than the rest. The deck also wraps into a courtyard between two wings of the house, which means more corners and more careful board layout than a straight run.
How We Built It
We removed the weathered deck and built the new one on a fresh frame, surfaced in cedar-tone capped composite with hidden fasteners so the warm color is in the board and not on it. A black aluminum railing runs the perimeter, the rim and posts are wrapped in white, and the stair to the lawn was built to match. The courtyard section was laid out so the board runs meet cleanly at the corners.
The Finished Deck
The finished deck has an even, warm cedar color from one end of the house to the other, including the shaded courtyard side. The white fascia and black rail give the light-blue house a clean edge, and the surface will not need sanding or staining to stay this way.
How They Use It
The homeowner uses the deck for grilling, sitting outside, and family gatherings without the worn, faded look, and without a staining weekend on the calendar every year or two.

The Build Process
In-Home Estimate
We met with the homeowner in Woodland Park, inspected the weathered deck, and reviewed cedar-tone capped composite samples against the house.
Demolition and Framing
The crew removed the old deck and built a new frame along the full back of the house and into the courtyard.
Decking
We installed the cedar-tone capped composite boards with hidden fasteners, laying out the courtyard corners so the runs meet cleanly.
Railing, Wraps, and Walkthrough
The black aluminum railing, white fascia, and post wraps were installed, then we reviewed the finished deck with the homeowner.
