From Start to Finish
What We Found
The deck behind the home had weathered heavily over the last few years, with sun fading across the boards and peeling paint along the stair risers. The surface also had a few spots of mildew near the shaded side of the house, and the railings looked tired compared to the rest of the backyard.
What Made It Tricky
The deck had a mix of bare wood, old coating, and rough traffic areas, so the prep needed to be thorough before any paint could go on. Tight access along the side yard also meant we had to stage materials carefully and keep the work area clean for the homeowner.
How We Built It
We started with a full wash and surface prep, then hand-sanded the worn areas to improve adhesion and smooth out the peeling sections. After that, we applied a high-quality exterior deck coating in a cedar-brown tone, using brush and roller work for the boards, trim, and railings to keep the finish even.
The Finished Deck
The finished deck now has a consistent color and a cleaner look across the walking surface, steps, and railings. The new coating also helped seal the wood and cover the uneven wear that had built up over time, giving the backyard a more maintained appearance.
How They Use It
The homeowner now has a deck that looks presentable for cookouts and daily use without feeling like the boards need constant attention. It’s a better fit for relaxing outside and having guests over.
