Project Story

From Start to Finish

Discovery

What We Found

Before the project, the Wayne home had a small concrete landing that felt too tight for regular use. The step down into the yard was awkward, and the rear entrance looked unfinished compared with the rest of the property. The homeowner wanted a proper deck that would make the back of the house more functional and give the family a place to spend time outside.

The Challenge

What Made It Tricky

The back door sat higher than the yard, so the deck height and stair layout had to be measured carefully to keep the transition comfortable and code-compliant. There was also limited space along one side of the house, which meant the footprint had to stay efficient while still leaving enough room for furniture and walking space.

Our Approach

How We Built It

We installed a pressure-treated framing system on concrete footings and finished it with composite boards in a slate-gray tone for a clean, low-maintenance surface. White vinyl railings with black balusters were added to match the home, and we built a straight staircase with wide treads for easier yard access. The layout was planned to keep the deck open and usable without overpowering the backyard.

The Result

The Finished Deck

The finished deck gave the rear of the home a more complete, polished look and created a much more useful outdoor area. The gray composite surface pairs well with the home exterior, and the new railing package adds a crisp contrast from the yard. It now feels like a natural extension of the house instead of just a small landing.

Client Outcome

How They Use It

The homeowners now use the deck for grilling, morning coffee, and casual evenings outside. It turned the back door area into a space that works better for everyday life.
