Oakland Deck Cleaning for a Spring Refresh
Deck cleaning in Oakland, NJ by House of Decks LLC. We remove mildew, pollen, and stains to refresh wood decks and outdoor spaces.
Project Story
From Start to Finish
What We Found
The Oakland deck had taken on a dull, dirty look after a long winter, with greenish mildew along the shaded side and a layer of pollen collecting on the boards and railings. The stair treads were especially grimy, and the corners near the house showed dark runoff marks from rain and melting snow. The homeowner noticed the buildup most around the back door and seating area.
What Made It Tricky
Because part of the deck sits under tree cover, the surface held moisture longer and needed a thorough wash without harming the wood grain. The homeowner also wanted the cleaning done carefully around the rail posts and steps so the deck could be used again the same day once it dried.
How We Built It
We used a low-pressure deck wash with a wood-safe cleaner to break down mildew, dirt, and organic buildup without gouging the boards. The crew worked section by section across the 14' x 22' surface, paying extra attention to the stairs, rail caps, and tight corners where grime had collected. After rinsing everything clean, we inspected the deck for any areas that would benefit from future staining or sealing.
The Finished Deck
The deck came back to a much lighter, more even tone, with the mildew stains and pollen film removed from the walking surface and stairs. The boards look cleaner and the whole backyard feels more cared for, especially around the rear entry. It’s now a better-looking space for grilling, relaxing, and weekend use.
How They Use It
The homeowner can use the deck for spring and summer get-togethers without the dirty buildup standing out. It feels like a cleaner extension of the house again.
